SACRAMENTO, CA—California policymakers are having to make extraordinary efforts to protect patients and our health system from sabotage by the Trump Administration. Key healthpolicy experts from Consumers Union, Health Access California, and Small Business Majority will be hosting a press briefing call TODAY, Friday, October 12th, at 1pm to detail the California impacts and action to respond to these attacks, and call for continued state action to protect patients. The call-in number is 866-906-7447; the code is 9174075.

The latest and most shocking administrative attack was last night’s announcement that the White House is withholding funding for cost-sharing reductions (CSRs),which have already been budgeted and contracted for. Health insurers are forced to make up the more than $7 billion/year (over $600 million in California) with additional double-digit premium hikes because of the Trump Administration reneged on these subsidy payments, which helps consumers with incomes under 250% of the federal poverty level to afford out-of-pocket costs such as deductibles, coinsurance and copayments.
